University administrators' requests for an accreditation procedure that prioritized mission-driven outcomes over strict input-based standards led to the creation of the US Board Of Accredited Business Certification (USBABC). At first, many four-year universities in the US that offered business degrees were not recognized by the accrediting organizations that were in place. Similar accreditation issues were also encountered by many foreign universities for their business programs.
Since its founding, USBABC has developed into a leading accrediting organization that places a premium on teaching and learning quality. It has grown to be a major player in higher education accreditation, with more than 200 schools as members and more than 800 programs accredited worldwide. When USBABC received recognition from the Council for Higher Education Distance Learning Accreditation Association (CHEDLAA) in January 2017, it marked an important milestone and strengthened its position.
Along the way, USBABC has grown into a crucial organization that accredits colleges and universities around the world that are dedicated to academic excellence in business education. A paradigm shift toward outcome-focused evaluation resulted from its basis, which was anchored on resolving the shortcomings of the accreditation models that were in place at the time. With increasing membership and broad reputation, USBABC is still influencing business education accreditation.
